Pronounced – boo gan villea 🙂
These beautiful plants can be a small tree, a bush, and may be planted in a pot or hanging basket. However you have them planted, Bougainvillea will give you weeks and weeks of blooms to enjoy. Grow them in slightly acidic, well-drained soil and be sure to let them dry out completely between waterings. Letting them dry out between watering promotes strong blooming periods. Once established, Bougainvillea becomes drought tolerant and require little to no maintenance.
Try planting one around a tree with large open branches. The Bougainvillea will grow up into the tree and protrude through every open space in the tree. A truly stunning look.
A fun fact about the Bougainvillea flowers: The flower is the teeny white bloom surrounded by the colorful bracts (leaves) of the plant.
